Downgraded involuntarily: Airways to refund as much as 75% of ticket price to flyers; DGCA amends guidelines

The Directorate Basic of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has amended the principles relating to “services to be offered to passengers by airways as a result of denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights” to “strengthen the rights of air travellers affected by downgrading of their ticket.”
“The modification will permit the passenger, who’s downgraded involuntarily and is carried in a category decrease than that for which the ticket is bought, to be reimbursed by the airline as follows: For home sector: 75% of the price of ticket together with taxes. For Worldwide Sector: 30% of the price of ticket together with taxes for flights of 1500 km or much less; 50% of the price of ticket together with taxes for flights between 1500 km to 3500 km and 75 % of the price of ticket together with taxes for flights greater than 3500 km,” a DGCA official stated.
